Ralph ‘Wayne”Gelvin, of Sandy Lake (Deer Creek Twp.) passed away quietly at the Rolling Fields Nursing Home, Conneautville on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 after a brief illness.  He was 80.

He was born in Sharon, Pa. on March 10, 1936 a son of the late Arthur and Minnie (Heasley) Gelvin. 

Wayne as he was known to his family and friends had been employed at the former Trinity Industries, Greenville having retired in the late 90’s.  He then went onto work as a Security Guard for Point Security, attached to the Meadville Medical Center from which he had retired in 2012.

His favorite activities were being with his family, travelling, his yearly fishing trips into Canada, golfing and hunting.  He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland Indians and was a follower of the Penn State Wrestling team.   He had attended the Mumford Chapel, Cochranton.

He is survived by his wife, the former Kathie McQuiston whom he married on August 19, 2000, Sandy Lake. A daughter, Kay Higby and her husband Robert, Meadville, son Kevin Gelvin and his girlfriend Jennifer Campbell of Conneaut Lake, a brother James Brumbaugh and wife Paula of Rhoade Island.

Three stepchildren, Scott Vandervort of Sandy Lake, Bonnie Vandervort of Utica and Patty Collins of Meadville and a brother in-law, Kevin McQuiston of Sandy Lake.  His grandchildren, Sam Higby of Pittsburgh, Meggie Higby and her husband Trent Williams of Pittsburgh, Josh Gelvin and his wife Lori of Greenville, Rodney Gelvin and his girlfriend  Melissa Meizelberger of Jamestown, Great grandchildren, Aaron and Kyle Gelvin of Greenville  and step great granddaughter, Abby Collins of Meadville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, His former wife, Nancy Gelvin whom he married on July 8, 1961 and who preceded him in death on August 19, 1997, a son Rodney Gelvin and a sister Linda.

Per the wishes of Wayne he will be laid to rest at the Rocky Glenn Cemetery with graveside services to be held at a later date.  Arrangements have been entrusted care and direction of  the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 3223 Perry Hwy., Sheakleyville.  Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at snyderfh.com.
