Gloria A. Black

November 19, 1937 ~ June 4, 2015 (age 77) 77 Years Old


Gloria A. Black, Second Street, Fredonia passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at 12:10 pm at the Sharon Regional Health System Hospice surrounded by her family. She was 77.

She was born in Stoneboro, PA on November 19, 1937 a daughter of the late Charles and Virginia Greggs, Gloria was subsequently raised by her grandparents.  On March 11, 1955 she married Donald H. Black who survives.  She was a licensed practical nurse (LPN) having worked at the former Mercer County Home and the White Cliff Nursing Home.  She had also been employed at the former Hastee’s Store, Sheakleyville and at the Pit Stop Restaurant at ADESA Auto Auction in Jackson Twp.  She was a former member of the Grace Baptist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fredonia American Legion Post # 919.  Gloria enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles and her trips to the casinos with her husband, but her greatest joy was the moments that she could share with her family.

In addition to her husband of 60 years, she is survived by a son Donald Black of Vienna, OH, 4 daughters, Connie, L. Slater and her husband Jack of Hernando, FL.,  Sandra Hast and her husband David of Sharpsville, Brenda L. Walters of Inverness, FL and Linda L. Perry and her companion Bob Torok of Hubbard, OH, 2 sisters, Deloris Christy of KY and Loretta Reiger and her husband Art of Natrona Heights.  Her grandchildren, Shawnda Szugye, Robert Walters, David Hast, Faith Vaughn, Kevin Walters, Donald J. Slater, Daniel Slater, Kristin Shaffer and John Black and 11 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant grandson Bradley Staul.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the nurses and staff on 6 West at the Sharon Regional Health System and to Dr. Nevin Kosic and Dr. Jean Wilson for the comfort, care and concern that was provided.

Respecting the wishes of Gloria, private family services will be held at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 169 Second Street, Fredonia.  The interment will be at the Millbank Cemetery.  Online memories and condolences may be shared at the family at www.snyderfh.com.
