William R. Straub

William Straub Obituary

William R. Straub, Otter Creek Twp., Greenville passed away early Thursday morning, December 3, 2020 at the St. Pauls Senior Living Community, Greenville.  He was 78.

Bill was born in Greenville on April 27, 1942 a son of the late Sam and Alda (Grinnell) Straub.  He was a graduate of the Commodore Perry High School Class of 1960.  On October 20, 1962 he married the former Helen Shilling who had preceded him in death on March 16, 2019.  He had retired from PennDot after 36 years of service and previously had been a janitor at the Commodore Perry School District and a school bus driver for Paul Pilgram. 

Bill had served as a Twp. supervisor for Otter Creek Twp. and had been a church elder for the former Jerusalem United Church of Christ and was currently attending the Fredonia Presbyterian Church.  He was a 67 year member of the grange belonging to the Pleasant Ridge Grange and later the New Vernon Grange after its merger, he had held many offices in the Subordinate and Pomona Grange. 

Bill enjoyed farming and after his marriage he raised Belgian Horses which he enjoyed using the horses to pull a sleigh and a bob sled covered wagon that he showed at many fairs.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing and always enjoyed being around his family, especially enjoying his grandchildren and great grandchildren and took much pride in showing his grandchildren how to ride and care for the horses.

He is survived by two sons, James Straub and his wife Emily, Stoneboro and John Straub, Fredonia; two daughters, Jean Cullen, Hadley and Julie Straub, Greenville; 6 grandchildren, Isaac and Aaron Straub, Jenny Patterson and her husband Kyle, Matthew Cullen and his wife Sara, Michelle Maust and her husband Scott and Joe Straub and his wife Jackie; 6 great grandchildren, Jasmine, Ella, Levi, Aleah, Trevor, Derek and Kolton.  A special cousin, Berti Coulter and her sons, Many aunts, uncles and cousins and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 56 years and a brother, Richard Straub.

Family and friends may call at the Fredonia Presbyterian Church, Water Street, Fredonia on Sunday, December 6, 2020 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm and Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 am.  The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am. Due to COVID 19 restrictions, seating for the service will be limited.  The funeral service will be lived streamed at www.snyderfh.com.

Bill will be laid to rest at the Hadley Cemetery.

COVID 19 restrictions will be followed and all in attendance are requested to wear a facial mask.
