Ronnie Slater Obituary

Ronnie D. Slater of Perry Township, Hadley went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at the UPMC - Horizon, Greenville of congestive heart failure. He was 80.

Ronnie was born in Mercer on November 12, 1942, to the late Asa James and Helen Melissa (Knapp) Slater. He was the youngest of ten children and the only one to be born in a hospital. He married the former Roberta L. Powell on November 16, 1974, who survives at home.

Ronnie was an over-the-road truck driver for most of his career, retiring in 2006. He then went on to work part-time at McCartney’s Feed Mill and Lakeview Fertilizer. Ronnie also worked for Powell Grain Farm, which brought him back to his farming roots. He enjoyed working for Jess Powell and thought of him as a son.

He was a member of the Oak Grove Church; he loved the Lord, his church family, and his pastors. He was also a member of the Commodore Perry Lions Club.

Ronnie will be remembered for his sense of humor, infectious laugh, and great ability to carry on a conversation.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 48 years, Roberta; his children, Jeff Slater of Lancaster and Andrea “Lynn” Slater-Witmer and husband Rick of Parksville, KY and triplet stepchildren, Todd McDonald and wife Kelly of New Hampshire, Tami Maloney of Virginia and Troy McDonald and wife Kathy of Greenville; a sister, Flossie Rager of Mercer; a brother, Bruce Slater and wife Lorna of Grove City; Eleven grandchildren, Ryan Slater and wife Katelyn, Derrick Witmer, Sophie Witmer, Brandon McDonald, Mitchell Maloney, Lane Maloney, Kayla Madden and husband Matt, and Owen Brickell and wife Sherah, Amanda Adams, Rob Adams and his wife Falon and Katie LaBrozzi and her husband Justin; and nine great-grandchildren.
