Leland F. “Jinx” McClain, Mercer, Fairview Twp. passed away Saturday afternoon, March 11, 2023, at the UPMC Jamison, New Castle. He was 87.
He was born in Shippensville on October 23, 1935, a son of the late Deo and Wilda (Breneman) McClain. On November 26, 1960, he married his wife of 62 years, the former Evelyn Joan Alexander who survives. Mr. McClain had served honorably with the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He then went on to work at the former Trinity Industries, Salem Tubes, General American (GATX) Masury, Ohio from where he retired and Patterson Block. Following his retirement, he went on to work for ADESA Auto Auction for over 20 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and traveling, and had raised and sold sweet corn and other produce for over 40 years. He cherished the moments that he shared with his family, especially the grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Joan, he is survived by his children, Lori (Lee) Swan, Hubbard, OH., Alan McClain, Hadley and Marc (Valerie) McClain, Fredonia; 6 grandchildren, Scott McClain, NY, Beth McClain, Jackson Center, Alex McClain, Hadley. Kate Stutzman, Emlenton, Madeleine McClain and Gavin McClain, Fredonia; 6 great-grandchildren, Samantha McClain, Jackson McClain, Rileigh Boitnott, Carsen Boitnott, Carter Stutzman, and Harrison Stutzman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Susan, and a brother Harold G. McClain.
The funeral and committal service will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at 12:00 NOON at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 3223 Perry Hwy., Sheakleyville with military honors accorded by the Greenville American Legion Post # 140. He will be laid to rest at the Oak Grove Cemetery.
