Lawrence 'Ray" McCracken Obituary

Lawrence Ramon “Ray” McCracken, Sandy Creek Twp, Hadley passed away Sunday evening, October 23, 2022, at the Greystone Country Estates, Fredonia. He was 94.

He was born on the family farm in Sandy Creek Twp. on April 16, 1928, a son of the late Carl R. and Kathryn B. (Armour) McCracken.  On December 26, 1953, he married the former Jane G. Warren who survives.  Mr. McCracken began his working career working on a dairy farm and later a poultry farm, he then went on to work as a union carpenter from where he retired. Following his retirement, he also worked at Door World, Hadley.

Ray had served as a school director for the Commodore Perry School District.  He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and snowmobiling. Water skiing was a passion of his and he was the founder of the Stoneboro Ski Club, he also built Dream Lake on the family farm where he was able to continue his water-skiing activities at home.  Ray was a National Trick Ski Champion in the Senior Men’s Division. In his early years, he received his fixed-wing pilot’s license.

In addition to his wife of nearly 69 years, Jane, he is survived by three daughters, Kim Ende, Sheakleville, Lisa (Ray) Mozes, Greenville, and Andrea (Randall) Greathouse, Conneaut Lake; a daughter-in-law, Lauri McCracken, Geneva; 9 grandchildren, Erica (Sean) Santiago, Fulton, MD, Charlene (Thomas) Breakiron, Grove City, Shawna (Jeremy) Mook, Linesville, Dylan (Billie Jo) McCracken, West Springfield, Cassandra Moses, Grove City, OH, Alexander Mozes, Erie, Julia Mozes, Greenville, Parker Greathouse, Conneaut Lake and Kelsey Greathouse, Conneaut Lake; 5 great-grandchildren, Mason and Malia Santiago, Nate and Nicole Gidding and Ashton Mook.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Perry McCracken and son-in-law, Thomas Ende.

Family and friends may call on Thursday, October 27, 2022, from 3:00 – 6:00 pm at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 3223 Perry Hwy., Sheakleyville.  Private family services will be held on Friday and Mr. McCracken will be laid to rest at the Sheakleyville Cemetery.
