John Gerald Leasure of Ocala, FL, formerly of Vero Beach, FL, formerly of Greenville and Conneaut Lake, passed away Friday morning February 12, 2021 in Ocala, FL. He was 94.
Born 23 January 1927 in Penn Run, PA, he was the eldest son of the late Ord Penrose and Gertrude (Smith) Leasure. John was a graduate of Sheakleyville High School in Sheakleyville, PA in 1944.
He served dutifully and honorably in World War II as a corporal in the Army Air Force, receiving the Army of Occupation Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
He was employed for 33 years as a railroad engineer on the Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad. After retiring, he was also employed at Johns Island of Vero Beach, FL for 15 years at the golf club. He was a life time member of the V.F.W. and a member of Ocala Duplicate Bridge Club.
He was an avid golfer and an extremely dedicated bridge player. He enjoyed traveling, especially cruises, and spending time with his family. His frequent comment was” I have lived a wonderful life.”
John is survived by his children: Carol Ann (Wayne) Briant of Ocala, FL and John Richard Leasure of Conneaut Lake; Grandchildren: Nicholas Peter Sham, John Richard Leasure, Jr., Amber Leigh Leasure: Great grandchildren: Payton Ann and Alexander John Sham, a sister: Frances Sutton of Gibsonia and a sister-in-law: Lorraine Leasure, Missouri City, TX , and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 68 years, Flossie Irene (Larimer) Leasure; his brother, Samuel Richard Leasure; a sister, Elinor Douville,;and daughter-in-law, Debra Woge Leasure.
A Celebration of Life service for John will be held on April 18, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 3223 Perry Hwy., Sheakleyville. John will be laid to rest next to his wife at the Hadley Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family online at www.snyderfh.com.
