Howard Becker Obituary

Howard A. Becker, Milledgeville Road, Hadley (Deer Creek Twp.), passed away at 6:45 PM on Wednesday May 4, 2022 at The Grove in Greenville at the age of 96.

He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on March 2, 1926, a son of Frank H. and Flora M. (Ritz) Becker. He attended Carrick High School. In 1943, he enlisted in the Army Air Corp. at the at the age of 17. There he trained as a Crew Chief on the B-29. He ended his tour of duty in Okinawa, Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

He married Rosemary McGinley on June 21, 1952. They resided in Dormont for 20 years before moving to the Hadley area with their children. They celebrated 62 years of marriage before Rosemary's passing in 2014.

Howard worked as a goldsmith and diamond setter for many local jewelry stores, most recently Kidd's Jewelry in Greenville. He did not retire until 2018 at the age of 92.

Howard loved spending time with his family, reading, building jigsaw puzzles, and walking and playing ball with his dogs over the years. He had a fondness for German Shepherds. Recently he doted on his two cats. He was an avid reader, particularly enjoying the Civil War. He visited many battleground sites, over the years, but always returned to Gettysburg; his favorite. Howard was a member of the Countryside Evangelical Congregational Church in Clarks Mills, attending with both his son and grandson.

Howard is survived by three sons: Howard J. Becker of Hadley, Stephan G Becker and his wife Sherry of Clarks Mills, and Michael J. Becker and his wife Renee of Kinston, N.C. and a daughter: Jeananne M. Arbuckle and her husband Mark of Hadley. Also surviving are six grandsons: Brian Arbuckle and wife Ashley, John Becker and wife Linda, Kevin Arbuckle and wife Jessi, Keith Becker, Cody Becker and wife Crystal, and Matthew Morris and wife Kelly; five granddaughters: Misty Henry and husband Jason, Andrea Hoovler and husband Jason, Megan Gay and husband Thomas, Kady Becker, and Amanda Greypack and husband William. Twenty great-grandchildren survive with an additional one on the way, as well as a sister Catherine Giannakos and sister-in-law Margie Becker.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, three brothers, and four sisters.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at 11:00 am at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 3223 Perry Hwy., Sheakleyville. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, May 9, 2022 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM and 7:00 – 9:00 pm and are invited to share memories and condolences with the family online at www.snyderfh.com
