H. Arlene Slater, Sandy Lake (Mill Creek Twp.) passed away at 3:15 pm on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at the St. Paul’s Senior Living Community, Greenville where she had been residing. She was 91.
She was born in Sandy Lake on July 6, 1929 a daughter of the late Leon Albert and Doris L. (James) Dean. She was a 1946 graduate of the former Sandy Lake High School. On July 24, 1947 she married J. Richard “Dick” Slater who preceded her in death on Mar. 12, 1996. Arlene was a homemaker who along with raising her children, enjoyed being able to work alongside her husband on the family farm. She was a member of the New Lebanon Community Church; through the years she had been active with the Ladies Aid organization enjoying the fellowship and crocheting and quilting. After retiring from the family farm, she enjoyed being able to travel with her husband.
She is survived by three daughters, Linda D. Carter and her husband Bruce, New Port, MI, Dawne L. Kellner and her husband Michael, Sandy Lake and Ronda Slater, Fredonia; two sons, Dean R. Slater and his wife Polly, Sandy Lake and Michael E. Slater, Sandy Lake; a brother in law, Robert Urey, Sandy Lake; 4 grandchildren, April (Nate) Avery, MI., James B. (Natalie) Slater, Sandy Lake, Amber (Tim) Best, Clintonville and Traci Crank, MI.; 4 great grandchildren, Alissa Slater, Alivia Slater, Adysyn Avery, Isabella Crank and an additional great grandchild that will soon join the family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 48 years; a grandson, Joseph D. Slater; two sisters, Evelyn V. Clark and Lorraine Urey.
Family and friends may call at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 3223 Perry Hwy., Sheakleyville on Friday. August 14, 2020 from 1:00 pm to 3:00pm. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm with Rev. Timothy Rogers, nephew officiating. Arlene will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Hadley Cemetery.
