Gary W. McCracken, Hadley, Sandy Creek Twp. passed away unexpectedly on Monday afternoon, March 13, 2023, at the UPMC Horizon, Greenville Campus. He was 80.
He was born in Geneva on November 14, 1942, a son of the late Wayne J. and Louise (Campbell) McCracken. Following graduation, Gary went on to serve honorably with the US Army. On December 14, 1965, he married his wife of 57 years, the former Helene Mae Beck who survives. Mr. McCracken had been employed as a certified memorialist for Shelly Memorials in Greenville from where he retired after 40 years of service. He was a member of the North Salem Wesleyan Methodist Church. Gary enjoyed hunting and tinkering with and showing his 1951 Ford pickup, he was a collector of gas and steam power engines. He also had previously served as the caretaker and was a past president and current Sheakleyville Cemetery Association Board member.
In addition to his wife, Helene, he is survived by two sons, Keith McCracken, Hadley and Patrick (Darlene) McCracken, Greenville; a sister Joyce Fry, Hadley; 3 grandchildren, Michael McCracken, Sheakleyville, Reba McCracken and her significant other, Paul Lesofsky, Sheakleyville and Tyler McCracken, Greenville; 4 great-grandchildren, Michaela and Layton McCracken and Emma and Madelyn Lesofsky.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Thomas.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, March 17, 2023, at 11:OO AM at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 3223 Perry Hwy., Sheakleyville with the Rev. Micheal D. Marshall, pastor of the North Salem Wesleyan Methodist Church officiating. He will be laid to rest at the Sheakleyville Cemetery.
