Earlen S. (Earl) Free passed from this life into eternal life with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, February 12, 2021 at Avalon Springs in Mercer. He was 80.
Earl was born September 14, 1940 in Apollo, PA to the late William and Mildred (Strawn) Free.
He was a graduate of Elderton High School in 1958. He joined the US Navy Jan. 20, 1960 and was honorably discharged in 1964. He spent 37 months at sea on the aircraft carrier USS Shangri-La and during the Cuban crisis he had served aboard the USS Lexington.
He spent his working career in construction, retiring from ACI in 2009.
On October 21,1961 he married the love of his life and best friend, the former Carol L. Ackley.
He was a member of Perry Baptist Church in Hadley.
He is survived by his wife, a son Scott and his wife Mary Free of Moon Twp. PA; a daughter Sandra Henry, twin grandsons Jimmy and Alex Henry of Hadley; a brother Robert and wife Leigh Free of Armagh, a sister Rebecca and husband Bruce McCall of Grove City; brother-in-law Robert Rouse of Grove City; a brother-in-law Fred and wife Nancy Ackley of Beaver Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his in laws Raymond and Alberta Ackley; sister Bonita Free Rouse; a brother and sister-in-law Charles and Cleo Ackley Free.
A Celebration of the Life of Earl Free will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at the Perry Baptist Church, 3020 Hadley Road, Hadley with Rev. James Sodano officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 3223 Perry Hwy., Sheakleyville. The family has suggested that in lieu of flowers that memorial tributes be made to the Commodore Perry Food Pantry, 3353 Perry Hwy., Hadley, PA 16130 or to the American Heart Association.
