Barbara Elaine “Bonnie” (Meyer) Philson, Mercer, Fairview Twp. passed away early Tuesday morning, May 9, 2023, at St. Paul’s Home, Greenville with her family by her side. She was 92
Born in Avalon, PA on June 12, 1930, a daughter of Newton and Ethel (King) Greer. She was a graduate of the Braddock High School and went on to work at Mellon Bank until her marriage to John A. (Jack) Philson, Jr. on December 8, 1950, he preceded her in death on August 29, 2007. After her marriage, she raised her children and helped on the family farm, she also was employed by Laubscher Cheese as a waitress had been an Avon representative, worked at the former Oakes Hardware, and the Mercer County Extension Office and delivered Meals on Wheels. She was a member of the Coolspring Presbyterian Church, where she had served on the missionary committee.
Bonnie enjoyed playing cards in the neighborhood card clubs, socializing with members of the neighborhood homemakers. She enjoyed bowling and supporting her grandchildren in their varied endeavors, including 4 H activities and events, and was very proud of her “Grandma” horse show trophy. She loved her cats, enjoyed traveling on cruises with her husband and family or just simply sitting on the beach. She took great pride in being able to take care of her home, her family, and her friends. She always had an open door welcoming many, many kids into the home, whom she considered to be her extended family.
She is survived by her children, J. David Philson, Mercer, Beth (Dan) Lybarger, Meadville, Barb (Dave) Kish, Mercer and Julie Philson, Mercer; a son in law, John Snyder, Mercer; a special nephew who was thought of as her son, Jeff (Lynn) Senior, Pittsburgh; two sisters, Jean Martin, Mercer and Edith (Tom) Braunstein, Butler; 8 grandchildren, Jennifer Philson, Vanessa Philson, Donna Philson, Erin (Joe) Miller, Adam Snyder, Stacy (Mitchell) McAfoose, Sarah Kish and her companion Mike Friedle and Mike Kish and his companion, Brandi Davis; 6 great grandchildren, Jaxsen, Elainna, Quinn, Cole, Levi and Emma.
The family is thankful to the extended family and friends for their care and support during this time.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jack and daughter, Joyce Snyder.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 12, 2023, at 11:00 am at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 169 Second Street, Fredonia. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Millbank Cemetery. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home on Thursday, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM.
