Ronald L. Ruhlman, 76 of Transfer, PA went to see his Lord on October 17 after a short bout with a sudden illness. He was the son of Carl Ruhlman of Fredonia and Melcena Scheidhauer of Independence, MO.
Ron graduated from Mercer High and received a BS from Graceland College in Lamoni, IA in 1968. He was a member of the 1963 wrestling team inducted into the college’s athletic Wall of Fame in 2009. Ron married Diane (Wall) in 1969. He taught science for 30 years at Reynolds High school. He was Teacher of the Year in 1999. He was a track and cross-country coach for many years and a PIAA track and cross-country official after retiring.
Ron’s leadership in the GLOBE environmental program while at Reynolds earned him a trip to Finland with three students, a letter of recognition from Vice President Al Gore as well as entry into the Guinness Book of World Records for his participation on the first phone call between the North and South Pole.
Ronald is survived by step-mother Kay Ruhlman, Fredonia; wife of 50 years Diane, Transfer; son Steve and Laurie Ruhlman, Blue Springs, MO, and sister, Faye Shaw, Lamoni, IA. His grandchildren: Weston Ruhlman, Alicia Ruhlman, Abby Boyd and Eden Boyd; and many cousins.
