Richard Chess Obituary

Richard Jordan Chess, Jr. Hadley (Sandy Creek Twp.) passed away accidentally on Tuesday Evening, May 8, 2018 as the result of an accident having occurred while working on his race car in Sandy Creek Twp.  He was 25.

Richard was born in Greenville, Pa. on July 16, 1992 a son of Richard Jordan and Melissa (Taylor) Chess, Sr.  He had attended the Calvary Christian School, Mercer and later attended and graduated from the Commodore Perry High School in 2011.  He was a semi truck driver and had been employed most recently by CHP Transport, New Jersey.  Richard possessed a passion and love for race cars and owned and operated Chess Motor Sports, having competed locally at the Mercer Speedway, Sharon Speedway, Raceway 7 as well as many other regional tracks,  He particularly enjoyed racing at Mansfield Speedway and the Auburndale Speedway in Auburndale, Florida.  Richard’s love for cars extended into an appreciation for older vehicle.  He had attended the Aerospace Academy, Lakeland, Florida and the Mercer County Career Center studying auto body repair. His mechanical ability and knowledge allowed him to be employed at several local auto repair facilities.

He is survived by his father Richard Jordan Chess, Sr. and his companion Jessica Smith of Hadley, his mother, Melissa Caszat and her husband Robert of Auburndale, FL.; his paternal grandparents, Donald and Beverly Snyder of Hadley and his maternal grandmother, Margaret Taylor of Lake Alfred, FL. A sister, Ashleigh Chess of Transfer, a brother, James Chess of Hadley, 4 stepsisters, Ashley Ongley of Greenville, Tiffany Shipman and her husband Huey of OK, Haylee Benford and her husband Nathan of Ft. Hood, TX and Emily Massi of Hadley.  Two step brothers, Robert Caszat III of Meadville and Jacob Alford of Hadley.  A niece Jezebel and a nephew Jacob. 

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Dale Chess and maternal grandfather, James Taylor.

The funeral service will be on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 10:00 am at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 3223 Perry Hwy., Sheakleyville.  The interment with committal prayers will be held on Monday at the Stevenson Cemetery.  Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 – 8:00 pm and are invited to share memories and condolences online at snyderfh.com.
