Lilian Shonka, Strausser Road, Jackson Center (Lake Twp.) passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Saturday evening, January 5, 2019. She was 91.
Lilian was born in England on December 8, 1927 a daughter of the late Harold and Jane (Coupland) King. At the age of 16 she married Harry R. Shonka on December 8, 1944 who was serving with the U S Army and was stationed in England during W.W. II. Along with her husband, she came to the United States and was naturalized as a U S Citizen on June 14, 1949 they took up their residence in the Pittsburgh area until 1984 when she and her husband had relocated to the family home in Lake Twp. While living in Pittsburgh, Lilian was the assistant cook in the cafeteria for the North Hills School District. Lilian loved her family and enjoyed the moments she was able to share with her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her husband of 74 years, she is survived by two sons, Wayne Shonka of Jackson Center and Larry Shonka and his wife Patty of Greenville; a daughter in law, Linda C. Shonka of Sandy Lake; 4 grandchildren, Ethan Shonka and his companion Holly Everson of Sandy Lake, Jaime Shonka Turner and her husband David of Fuqyay – Varina, N.C., Samantha Hinson and her husband George of Raleigh, N.C. and Michelle Baldwin and her husband Mike of Allison Park; 2 great grandchildren, Ryan and Nathan Baldwin.
Lilian was preceded in death by a son, Steve Shonka ; brother Harold King; and three sisters, Edna King, Jennie Arnold and Ethel Elvidge.
At the request of Lilian, private services will be held for her family and she will be laid to rest at the Allegheny County Memorial Park, Allison Park, Pa.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care and the direction of Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 3223 Perry Hwy. Sheakleyville.
