Leroy E. Greggs, Sheakleyville passed away early Thursday morning at the UPMC Horizon, Shenango Valley Campus with his family by his side. He was 58.
Leroy was born in Greenville on April 4, 1960 a son of David and Viola Mae (Robinson) Greggs. On April 25, 1987 he married the former Carol L. Johnston who survives. Leroy had been employed at Hodge Foundry, Greenville for over 28 years. He had previously been employed by Campbells Trail and Turf, Greenville as small engine mechanic. He was a 20 year member of the Sheakleyvlle Community Volunteer Fire Department and has actively served as the Fire Police Captain. He was a member of the Mercer County Fire Police Association. He enjoyed pulling lawn tractors and was associated with the Allegheny Highland Pulling Association. He was a knowledgeable small engine mechanic which gave him an activity that he was able to pursue after having become disabled. He loved his family and took pride in the role that he played as being “Papa” to his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Carol; two daughters, Shelly Richards and her husband George, Greenville and Jessica Gaston and her husband Brad, Mercer; a son Jason Greggs, Sheakleyville,; his mother, Viola Mae Rath, Meadville; his mother in law, Ruby Johnston, Hadley; 3 sisters, Barb Huffman and her husband Dave, Hadley, Carol Greggs, Hadley and Melissa Right, Vermont’; a brother, Ronald Greggs and his wife Peg, Greenville; 4 grandchildren, James Silvis, Jr., Jordan Silvis and Tanner and Titus Gaston.
He was preceded in death by his father, David Greggs, his step father, George Rath; his father in law, Samuel Johnston and a brother in law Rodney Johnston.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 11, 2019 at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 3223 Perry Hwy., Sheakleyville with Rev. Theresa Robison , pastor of the Sheakleyville United Methodist Church officiating, The interment with commital prayers will follow at the Hadley Cemetery.
