Gregory Roy Maurer

Gregory Roy Maurer, Fredonia passed away at 5:14 am on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at his residence.  He was 60.

Greg was born in Somerset, Pa. on March 21, 1959  son of the late Roy E. and Betty L. (Seib) Maurer.  He was a 1977 graduate of Reynolds High School.  On December 31, 2013 he married the former Esther Davenport who survives.  Greg has been employed as a heavy equipment operator for the EPA for 30 years in Atlanta, Georgia.  He returned to Fredonia to be closer to his mother, Betty. He owned and operated Maurer Tobacco shop in Mercer.  He was an avid and diehard fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and always enjoyed watching the NASCAR races.  He was blessed with the loyalty and companionship of his two dogs, Milo and Tootsie.

In addition to his wife Esther, he is survived by two daughters, Lauren Davis and her husband Nathan, McCalla, Alabama and Alyssa Davison, Fredonia; a sister, Dorothy (Dotty) Kalchthaler and her husband Paul of Carthage, Tennessee; a sister in law, DeAnn Maurer, Fredonia; his parent in laws, Sandra and Paul Davenport, Knox, Pa., whom Greg always enjoyed eating the homemade pies that were made by Sandra and the many chat sessions over the years with Paul. 5 grandchildren, that were the apple of Greg’s eye, Eli, Adalyn, Mason, Logan and Ava.; his nieces and nephews who always made Greg proud, Karla, Adam, Ashley, Katie, Mark and Stacy, many great nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Carl E. Maurer.

At the request of Greg, the family will honor and celebrate Greg’s life with private family services. He will be interred next to his mother and father at the Millbank Cemetery.
