Gladys Shelhamer, formerly of Greenville, passed away at 2:10 am at the Avalon Springs Nursing Center, Mercer on February 22, 2017.  She was 93

Gladys was born in New Wilmington on August 17, 1923 a daughter of Arthur Kirk and Agnes Myrtle (Weber) Thompson.  She had attended Union High School, New Castle.  On December 21, 1940 she married Willard F. Shelhamer who preceded her in death on July 10, 1988.  She enjoyed baking, gardening, home canning, sewing and crocheting.  She had an interest in genealogy and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.  She had helped with keeping the financial records of her husband’s welding and machine shop business.  Gladys was past president and long-time member of the Delaware twp. -- Fredonia Blue Star Mothers.  She was a member of the Jerusalem Christian Church, Otter Creek Twp. and a TOPS member in Greenville.

She is survived by two daughters: Margaret Boyd and her husband James Keith of Sidney, OH, Hazel Harpst and her husband Thomas, Greenville; two sons: Gary Shelhamer and his wife Jean, Fredonia and Duane Shelhamer and his wife Jeane of Conneautville.  13 grandchildren:  Susan Ebert, Brian Boyd, Todd Harpst, Amy Alvarez, David Shelhamer, Christine Donaldson, Nancy Downs, Janet Earle, Tracy Sevin, Sharyl Vaughn, Barb Savolskis, Kirk Shelhamer,  Roswell Shelhamer and 33 great grandchildren.  Many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son Arthur Shelhamer; five brothers: John Thompson, Arthur Thompson, Francis Thompson, Chester Thompson and infant George Thompson; two sisters: Mabel Hamilton and Ethel Gregg.

The funeral service will be held on Sunday at 3:00 pm at the Fredonia United Methodist Church, Liberty Street, Fredonia with John Canon, pastor of the Jerusalem Christian Church officiating.  Gladys will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Millbank Cemetery.  Family and friends may call on Saturday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 169 Second Street, Fredonia and at the church on Sunday from 2:00 – 3:00 pm.  Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at snyderfh.com
