Donald H. Black, Second Street, Fredonia passed away peacefully at his residence at 6:15 pm on Sunday, September 30, 2018. He was 83.
Don was born in Jackson Center on May 17, 1935 a son of the late Harry D. and Dorothy May (Menzi) Black. On March 11, 1955 he married the former Gloria A. Greggs who preceded him in death June 4, 2015. He was a lifelong heavy Equipment operator attached to the Operating Engineers Local 66, Pittsburgh. Following his retirement was a self employed bulldozer operator doing work for area farmers. He was a member of Fredonia American Legion Post # 919. Don enjoyed fishing, camping and in his younger years hunting. His greatest enjoyment was being able to spend time with his family.
He is survived by a son, Donald L. Black, Vienna, OH; 4 daughters, Connie L. Slater and her husband Jack of Hernando, FL, Sandra Hast and her husband David of Sharpsville, Brenda L. Walters, Hernando, FL and Linda L. Perry and her companion Bob Torok, Hubbard, OH; 4 brothers, John William Black and his wife Darlene, Justin, TX, Frank L. Black and his wife Janet, Fredonia, Carl R. Black, Dubois and Clifford L. Black and his wife Bette, Fredonia; a sister Maxine Clark and her husband Richard of Fredonia; a step sister, Alice Aley and her husband Lonnie of Fredonia; 9 grandchildren, Shawnda Szugye, Robert Walters, David Hast, Faith Vaugh, Kevin Walters, Donald J. Slater, Daniel Slater, Kristin Shaffer and John Black; 14 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 60 years; 2 brothers, Kenneth H. Black and Howard Emery Black and an infant grandson, Bradley Staul.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Fredonia branch of the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 169 Second Street, Fredonia with Doug Watson, pastor of the Lighthouse Baptist Church of the Valley, Hermitage officiating. The interment will follow at the Millbank cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 7:00-9:00 pm and on Wednesday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am and are invited to share memories and condolences online at www.snyderfh.com
