Dennis S. Mears

Dennis S. Mears, Deer Creek Twp., Hadley passed away at 5:43 am on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at the Meadville Medical Center.  He was 68.

He was born in Meadville, on April 20, 1949 a son of the late Stanley and Marjorie (Putt) Mears.  On January 16, 1982 he married the former Billie Jo Harvey who survives. He was a graduate of the Meadville High School and had studied at the University of North Texas.  He served with the US Navy during the Vietnam War.  Denny had been employed by Travaglini Enterprises retiring in 2011.  He owned and operated Jerbowden Archery Shop and Custom Bow Making and was internationally known for his quality hand made traditional bows.  He enjoyed repairing and riding motorcycles and was a member of the Crawford County Road Riders. Over the years he was active in Men’s Ministry working with Narcotics Anonymous and had served as a sponsor and friend to many that he had met through this organization.  He was a member of Emmanuel Christian Church, Stoneboro.  He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, boating and hunting.

He is survived by his wife at home, two sons, Dennis W. Mears and his wife Britney, Atlantic and Jeremiah Mears, Hadley; a daughter, Holly Thomas and her husband John of Espyville; a brother, Wayne Mears and his wife Pam of York; a sister, Paula Vitz and her husband Chuck of Red Lion; 5 grandchildren, Madison, Dawson, Lexy, Camden and Caleb along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral and committal service will be held on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 3223 Perry Hwy. Sheakleyville with Rev. Timothy Clark, pastor of Emanuel Christian Church officiating.  Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 2:00 – 4:00  and 7:00 – 9:00 pm and may share memories and condolences online at snyderfh.com.

The family has suggested that memorial tributes may be made to the family through the funeral home to help defray expenses.
