David Wayne Stright, Sheakleyville passed away early Friday, Morning, November 29, 2019 at the St. Paul’s Home, Greenville where he had been a resident for 11 years. He was 83.
He was born in Mercer, on May 28, 1936 a son of the late James Arthur and Alice (Williams) Stright. Wayne, as he was known to his family and friends, was a graduate of the Cochranton High School following which he went onto serve with the US Army from 1959 – 1963 where he was attached to the 503rd Engineer Company stationed in Stugart, Germany. He had been employed at the Reznor, Mercer for 42 years. On December 22, 1960 he married the former Deanna Andrews, who survives.
In addition to his wife Deanna of nearly 59 years, he is survived by two daughters, Tracy McCartney and her companion Jim McLaughlin, Westminster, MD. And Allison Clapper, Greenville; his twin sister, Jayne (Roland) Jacobs, Cochranton; a sister, Linda (Chester) Harsh, Sheakleyville. Three grandchildren, Kassi (Abe) Milligan, Concord, OH, Dr. Lindsay McCartney and her husband Dr. Derek Sampey, Ventura, CA. and Jordan (Allison) McCartney, Erie and a former son in law, Troy McCartney, Hadley.
Wayne’s grandchildren, were the apple of his eye, he quickly became their biggest fan, attending and supporting them in their many school and sports activities. He loved to do gardening and enjoyed caring for his lawn, woodworking and simply just watching the birds. He was a member of the Sheaklevyille United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Margaret Thompson and two brothers, Donald and Keith Stright.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, December 2, 2019 at 4:00 pm at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 3223 Perry Hwy., Sheakleyville with Rev. Theresa Robinson, pastor of the Sheakleyville United Methodist Church officiating. Wayne will be laid to rest at the New Lebanon Cemetery.
