Betty L. Shields, formerly of Cochranton (Greenwood Twp.) passed away on Sunday Evening, December 29, 2019 at the Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, Meadville where she had been a resident. She was 78.
Betty was born in Cochranton on September 20, 1941 a daughter of the late James Edwin and Anna Mary (Gilbert) Gorby. On June 24, 1961 she married David C. Shields who survives. She had been employed by the former Grants Co., Meadville and then as a custodian with Crawford County Active Aging where from which she had retired. Betty was an active member of the Reash Community Church where she enjoyed participating in the many church activities and events. She and her husband were avid travelers having visited 48 on the 50 states and always enjoyed socializing with others at the many family and church activities and gatherings.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, David “Burr” Shields, Meadville and Dale Shields and his girlfriend, Linda, Cochranton; two daughters, Donna Roberts and her husband Charles, Hadley and Dixie Mast and her husband Clarence “Slim” of Hadley; two brothers, James Gorby of CA. and Larry Gorby, Cochranton; two sisters, Nancy Unger, Meadville and Mary Mosher, Meadville; 1 grandson, Drew Mast, Hadley and several step grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother David Gorby.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 3223 Perry Hwy., Sheakleyville with Randy Keeling, Senior pastor of the Reash Community Church officiating. Betty will be laid to rest at the Greendale Cemetery, Meadville.
