Barbara Ann (Hedstrom) Riley, Greenville passed away Monday morning April 8, 2024, at the Villa at St. Paul Senior Living. She was 97.
She was born in Clearwater, FL on March 18, 1927, a daughter of the late Otto Samuel and Dora Marie (Durling) Hedstrom. As a child, she and her family moved to the Northeast, residing in Massachusetts, Main, New Hampshire, and Connecticut, before settling in Greenville. On January 11, 1953, Barbara married Robert “Red” Riley who preceded her in death on December 28, 2008.
Mrs. Riley had been employed at the Greenville Hospital for 37 years, beginning her career in Medical Records, becoming the head of Transcription, and retiring as the Quality Assurance Director. She was a member of the Sheakleyville Presbyterian Church, having taught Sunday school, served on the Church Session, was the substitute pianist and organist, and served as the Secretary/ Treasurer of the Mary Wilson David missionary group.
She had been a Girl Scout leader for many years, involved in the Commodore Perry PTA, and was a “Grandma” at the Commodore Perry School District. She enjoyed cooking, music, traveling, and reading.
She is survived by two daughters, Sherry L. (Richard) Osborn, Camp Hill, and Nancy A. (Edward) Varner, Greenville; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Gary Riley, a brother, and a sister.
Respecting the wishes of Mrs. Riley, no visitation or service is scheduled. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Stevenson Cemetery.
