William Glenn slater

William Glenn Slater, Lake Twp. passed away Sunday evening, October, 8, 2017 at the UPMC, Horizon, Farrell.  He was 94.

He was born in Stoneboro on July 22, 1923 a son of the late Asa James and Helen Melissa Knapp.  On July 31, 1965 he married the former Ella A. Redfoot who preceded him in death on Oct. 21, 2001.

Glenn as he was known to his family and friend  had been employed at the former Greenville Steel Car and then went onto work at the Reznor, Mercer for 30 years retiring in 1985.

He enjoyed square dancing, gardening and raising pumpkin and strawberries.  Each fall he would invite special needs children to come to his patch and he would share with them the pumpkins that were raised.

He is survived by a step son, Larry A. Redfoot of Harrisburg; 5 brothers, Charles Mynheer (Brenda) Slater, Grove City, John Greer Slater, Toronto, Canada, Carl Bernard Slater, Las Vegas, Bruce Wayne (Lorna J.) Slater Grove City and Ronnie Dennis (Roberta) Slater, Hadley; two sisters, Flossie Rager of Stoneboro and Gwendolyn (Bob) Moore of Clarksville, AR;  a special nephew John (Glenda) Ryder and their children Ashley and Marcus, Mercer who Glenn take a very special interest in and enjoyed participating in their many activities.  Many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Olive Mae Papay and Edys Lenora Heckman.

The funeral and committal service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017 at 6:00 pm at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 169 Second Street, Fredonia with Rev. Eric Peters officiating.  The interment will be at the Millbank Cemetery.  Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2:00 – 6:00 pm and are invited to share memories and condolences online at snyderfh.com.
