Martha Alice (Ruth) Morris

Martha “Alice” Morris, formerly of Fredonia passed away at 6:05 PM on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at the Avalon Springs Nursing Center, Mercer (Coolspring Twp.) following a 5 year battle with Alzheimer’s.

She was born on May 3, 1928 to Edward and Leona (Love) Ruth in Butler County, Eau Claire, PA Alice, as she was affectionately known to her family and friends, was a homemaker and while attending high school had worked at the former 5 and 10 cent store, Sharon. On December 16, 1983 she married Robert E. Morris who had preceded her in death on March 27, 2005. She had attended the Fredonia Presbyterian Church. Alice enjoyed baking and cooking meals for her family especially during the holidays and she always found pleasure in decorating her home in the various holiday themes. She was an avid gardener. Until her health began to fail, Alice could always be found making afghans in which she would give away to her family and friends.

She is survived by her only daughter, Carolyn L. Franklin of Mercer; grandson, Edward B. Zahniser and his wife Lori of Tallahassee, FL; three great-granddaughters, Billie Jo McElwain, and her husband Marcus of Mercer, Amanda Campbell and her fianceé Donnie Dambaugh of Newnan, GA and Nichole McCandless of Mercer; three great great grandchildren, Mark McElwain, Jordan Campell and Kaleb Dambaugh.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 3 brothers, Edward H. Ruth, Alfred S. Ruth and Raymond L. Ruth, a granddaughter, Kelly S. Zahniser and a son-in-law, Danny Franklin.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 26, 2015 at 3:00 pm at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 169 Second Street, Fredonia with Rev. Tina Keller, pastor of the Fredonia United Methodist Church officiating. Friends and family are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 to 3:00 pm time of service. The committal service and interment will follow at the Millbank Cemetery, Fredonia. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family online at www.snyderfh.com.
