Lois J. (Braham) Unangst

November 20, 1928 ~ June 28, 2017 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Lois J. Unangst, 339 E. Jamestown Road, formerly of Delaware Twp. and Hermitage, passed away at 9:52 pm on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at the UPMC- Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was  88.

Lois was born in Irwin Twp., Venango County on Nov. 20, 1928 a daughter of Francis R. and Buena (Gilmore) Braham.  On Nov. 24, 1949 she married Donald M. Unangst who preceded her in death in July 16, 2016.   Lois was a 1946 graduate of Cochranton High School and attended Edinboro College, she  had been a teacher at the Nelson School in Crawford County and a 3rd and 4th grade teacher at the former Sheakleyville Grade School. For 15 years she had worked as a Congressional representative and office manager in the Congressional Office of the 24th District for Representatives Marks Marks and later for Thomas Ridge, having retired in 1990.  Lois was an active member of the Jerusalem Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School and had been past president of consistory and superintendent,  a member of the Friendship Bible Study Group as well as a weekly quilter.  She also had served on the Board of Director’s for St. Paul’s Home, Greenville for 15 years.  She was a member of the Stoney Point Grange, Thiel Women’s Club, Quota Club, Business and Professional Women’s Club and the Homesteaders Advisory Council.

Lois had a love for politics and was an active member of the Mercer County Republican Committee and had served as county secretary, a member of the Republican Council, committee woman for Delaware Twp. for many years and had also served as State Director for PA Council of Republican Woman for 6 years.   In 2004 she and her husband were the recipients of the Mercer County Republican Party Lifetime Achievement Award. 

She is survived by a son Gary D. Unangst and his wife Paula of Sandy Lake and a daughter, Debra D.Theodotou and her husband Nicholas of Savanah, GA.; 5 Grandchildren; Heather Swartzbaugh and her husband Darren of Henderson, NV, Ashley Simpson and her husband Gage of Saratoga Springs, NY, Mackenzie Stunkard of Cottonwood, UT, Kaley Stunkard of Charleston, SC

and Andrew Theodotou of Savanah, GA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 66 years; her stepfather, Earl Pattison,  a son, Larry D. Unangst; a grandson, Kyle Stunkard; a brother Duane Braham and a sister Maxine Bilitz

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Jerusalem Christian Church, 560 Donation Road, Greenville with John Canon, pastor of the church officiating.  The interment will be at the Jerusalem Church Cemetery.  Family and friends may call at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 169 Second Street, Fredonia on Friday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 am to 11:00 time of service.  Memories and condolences may be shared with the family online at snyderfh.com.
