John H. Slemenda, Sr.

John H Slemenda, Sr.Smith Road, Sandy Lake, French Creek Twp. passed away at 10:10 am on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at his residence following a period of declining health.  He was 89

He was born on May 10, 1926 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Charles and Mary Sevcik Slemenda.  He had graduated from Allegheny High School, Pittsburgh
and the University of Pittsburgh obtaining a degree in Business Administration.

He had served proudly in the U.S. Army during World War II, in the Philippines and Japan during the occupation.

After his service to the country and earning his degree, John was employed by Homestead Industries, ultimately attaining the position of Vice President of Sales and Marketing. He retired from Homestead in 1988 but continued to operate his own business, Farmland Equipment Company.

He was married to the former Rosemarie Heidenreich on July 2, 1949. She preceded him in death on October 5, 2010.

He is survived by his two children, John H. Slemenda, Jr. and his wife, Darlene (Davison) of Sandy Lake and Mary Lynn Veranese and her husband, Frank, of Conneaut Lake and a grandson: Andrew J. Slemenda of New York, NY. Many nieces and nephews.

John loved tinkering with machines of all kinds and spending time with his family. He was of the Catholic faith.

John was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Charles Slemenda, Milo A. Slemenda and Norman J. Slemenda.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 3223 Perry Hwy., Sheakleyville
