James R. Philson

James R. Philson, Fredonia Road, Greenville (Hempfield Twp.)formerly of Fairview Twp. passed away at 10:30 am on Friday, November 27, 2015 at the UPMC Horizon, Greenville. He was 77.

James was born in Mercer, PA on February 6, 1938, a son of John Alban and Margaret (Kitch) Philson . On March 20, 1971 he married Joyce I. (Dixon) Philson, in San Diego, CA. She preceded him in death on June 23, 2013. He joined the United States Navy in 1955 from which he retired in 1974.  He was employed at the Polk State Hospital and at the State Regional Correctional Facility, Mercer, from which he also retired. He was a member of the Coolspring Presbyterian Church. When he wasn’t working, he mostly enjoyed time with family, playing practical jokes. He also enjoyed cooking, being outdoors, hunting and gardening.

He is survived by 2 children, J.R. Philson and his wife Melissa of Greenville and a daughter Vickey Philson and spouse Amy Hise of Belleview, FL., 2 sisters, Mary Gustafson of Greenville, and Nancy Walters of Delano, 1 brother, Harry Scott Philson and wife Peggy of Fredonia, 2 grandchildren, Makenna and Noah Philson. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 2 sisters, Margaret Dolores Linn and Norma Philson and 3 brothers, John, Robert, and David Philson.

The family will received friends on Monday, November 30, 2015 at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 169 Second Street, Fredonia from 3:00-6:00 pm. Private family services will be held. Cremation through the funeral home crematory has been selected as disposition. Those desiring may share condolences and memories online at www.snyderfh.com.
